I read this on another blog, and just had to quote it here as I love it so much. It’s by author Ben Aaronovitch and reflects exactly how I feel about London. There’s something about the very air of this city that suits me. I was born in a dry, hot corner of the world that is, according to meteorologists, turning rapidly to desert, but my ancestors are all of European descent, so the muted light of London is easier on my pasty skin, and has been from the moment I arrived.
‘My dad says that being a Londoner has nothing to do with where you’re born. He says that there are people who get off a jumbo jet at Heathrow, go through Immigration waving any kind of passport, hop on the tube and by the time the train’s pulled into Piccadilly Circus they’ve become a Londoner.’
